Gimp is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Programme. It is a freely distributed programme for tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authorising. It can be used as a simple paint programme, an expert quality retouching programme , image format converter, etc. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extesions to do about anything!
